YEIDA unveils 8-lane e-way to Jewar airport

Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA)
In order to streamline the expected heavy vehicular traffic flow on the upcoming Jewar international airport, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has chalked out an ambitious plan to widen the existing six-lane Yamuna Expressway to eight lanes thereby making one additional lane on both sides of the high-speed corridor, CEO Arun Vir Singh, said claiming that as per an estimate, half of the five million commuters would travel in private vehicles while the rest would use public transport. Currently, around 33,000 vehicles ply on Yamuna Expressway daily from Greater Noida to Jewar side, while the number is 20,000 from Jewar to Agra side. In this connection, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had held a meeting with Yeida top brass over the emerging development of a road which would connect NH-93 and NH-2 in Kuberpur in Agra and concluded connecting the traffic of two national highways to Yamuna Expressway in Agra. The 165-km-long Yamuna Expressway along the Yamuna River connects Greater Noida and Agra, minimizing travel time from Delhi to Agra and also facilitating faster uninterrupted movement of passengers and freight traffic. The first 40 km is located in Gautam Budh Nagar, passing through Greater Noida, Dhankaur, Mirzapur and Jewar, followed by 20 km in Aligarh, crisscrossing through Tappal and the next 90 km is in Mathura, followed by Agra, with the expressway ending near Etmadpur, he said.
