Ensuring smooth flow of vehicular traffic in the area, the state highways department in Tamil Nadu has decided to build a six-lane, 1 km long flyover along the Thillai Ganga Nagar subway to avoid the devastating flood on the subway. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 85-cr and will take at least seven years to complete. The metro wing of the department is working on a Detailed Project Report (DPR), Minister for Highways and Minor Ports, Edappadi K Palaniswami said in a recent statement, adding that the proposed flyover will be six metres above the road, which is currently 5.5 metres below the road level. This is the long-pending project of integrated Road Over-Bridge (ROB) connecting Ennore High and Manali Roads and the Greater Chennai Corporation will call for fresh tenders, shortly. This comes as a relief for North Chennai residents, who were forced to wait for hours at the Vyasarpadi-Tondiarpet level-crossings several times a day to board for the Kolkata-bound trains.
