With the inking of a MOU with the railway ministry recently, the Chhattisgarh government has secured 884 km railway lines in a tripartite joint venture involving the state, railway, and power ministry. The agreement signed in Delhi was attended by state Chief Minister, Raman Singh, Union Railways Minister, Suresh Prabhu, and Union Minister for Power and Coal, Piyush Goyal. Under the joint venture, the Centre and the State will collaborate on the building of four rail corridors. The first will connect Dongargarh-Kharaigarh-Kawardha onwards to Bilaspur and stretches across 270 km, the second is between Raipur and Jharsaguda with a length of 310 km, the third will connect Ambikapur and Bawardih commanding a length of 182 km, and the fourth Surajpur Parsa East West corridor stretching across 122 km, largely covering far flung and backward areas of the state. It may be recalled that the state government already has a joint venture with the Coal, Rail, and Power Ministry to build 546 km of rail and roads in the state, facilitating the evacuation of coal, mineral, and metal products from the state.
