In an attempt to ensure hassle-free transport facilities to the travelling masses, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is all set to introduce an elevated mode of rapid public transport (RPT) operating within the city. As per plans, the municipal administration is working on introducing the RPT system in the form of metro or monorail to be integrated with its high capacity mass transit route (HCMTR) project comprising the construction of an elevated ring road link to connect the entire of Thane city. The RPT route would likely run between the HCMRT lanes being proposed by the TMC to reach out to various corners of the city and connect it to the railway stations that is a major point of transportation in the suburb. The finalization of the mode would be carried out by a panel of experts after studying the feasibility and present their observations to the corporation. The proposed RPT route would possibly link the Satis 2 decks from east side of the Thane railway station, Kopri, Anand Nagar, Teen Hath Naka, Nitin Company, Laxmi Park, Pokhran Lake, Chitalsar-Manpada, then crossing over the GB road going through Swastik Complex, Balkum, crossing old Agra road to reach Thane jail along the creek side and culminate short of the railway tracks on the west side. The phase two of the project will entail crossing over the railway tracks from near Chendani Koliwada to connect the Satis 2 project in Thane east. The entire corridor of the ring rail will be around 20 km and could have 16 stations alongside the road landings at vital areas of the city which could be developed as hubs.
