Smart Cities Mission Extended to March 2025

The Smart Cities Mission
The Smart Cities Mission, launched in June 2015, has pioneered urban development in India through innovative initiatives and competition-driven project selection. Each of the 100 cities under the Mission has developed unique projects, enhancing urban governance and achieving transformative goals.

As of July 3, 2024, 100 cities have completed 7,188 projects, accounting for 90% of the total, with an expenditure of ₹1,44,237 crore. The remaining 830 projects, worth ₹19,926 crore, are in advanced stages of completion. The Government of India (GOI) has released 97% of the allocated ₹48,000 crore budget, with 93% utilized by the cities. Full GOI financial support has been extended to 74 cities.

Due to various delays, the GOI has extended the Mission period to March 31, 2025, without additional costs, to complete the remaining projects. All ongoing projects are expected to be finished by the new deadline.
