NHAI Implements Effective Monsoon Management on National Highways

To prevent waterlogging on highways, NHAI and state irrigation departments conduct joint inspections to ensure that new highways do not obstruct the flow of channels or streams. Recently, special inspections were conducted on the Delhi-Katra Expressway and other projects.
In urban areas prone to waterlogging, adequate pumping arrangements will be made. Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and the Rajmaargyatra app will provide real-time information about any hindrances on highways.
In hilly regions, dedicated emergency response teams with sufficient manpower and machinery are stationed at landslide-prone sites. These teams will clear debris promptly to maintain 24x7 connectivity. Temporary barriers and warning signs are installed at these locations to ensure safe traffic movement.
NHAI is identifying vulnerable locations likely to be affected by floods, landslides, and rockfalls. Officials are inspecting structures with a history of flooding to identify potential damage. Warning signs will be installed to alert road users.
Alternative diversion plans have been established with district administrations for areas prone to large landslides. Geotechnical instrumentation, including real-time monitoring at vulnerable slopes and tunnels, is being implemented as a pilot project.
These proactive steps aim to ensure flood preparedness and enable emergency response, providing a seamless travel experience for National Highway users during the monsoon season.
