SAIL Supplies Special Steel for INS Androth, Boosting India’s Naval Modernization

INS-Androth
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied the entire requirement of special grade steel for INS Androth, commissioned into the Indian Navy. INS Androth is the second vessel in the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series, following INS Arnala, commissioned on 18th June 2025.

SAIL provided the full quantity of special grade steel, including HR sheets and plates, for all eight ASW-SWC corvettes being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE). The steel was sourced from SAIL’s Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela plants. The commissioning of INS Androth highlights India’s growing maritime capabilities and reinforces the nation’s commitment to “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” SAIL remains dedicated to supporting strategic defence infrastructure through indigenous steel production.
