RPF, NDRF & IRIDM Sign MoU to Boost Railway Disaster Preparedness & Golden Hour Rescue
Director General of RPF, Sonali Mishra, emphasized the need for effective coordination among all stakeholders and the development of standardized operating procedures. Shri R. Rajagopal, Member (Traction & Rolling Stock), Railway Board, highlighted that preparedness should cover both man-made incidents and natural disasters such as cyclones, heavy rains, and heat waves. Shri Piyush Anand, DG/NDRF, underlined that all agencies must operate as a unified team, with other railway departments participating in capacity-building efforts.
The MoU aims to operationalize a scalable, repeatable ecosystem for national railway disaster readiness, ensuring faster, safer, and more coordinated relief for passengers and staff. Key initiatives include coach- and track-specific first response training by RPF, standardized coach-extrication SOPs by IRIDM, interoperable communication protocols, and a three-stage training schedule covering foundation, field sensitization, and advanced simulation-based modules.
JRRPFA will serve as the nodal hub, NDRF will host battalion-level training, and IRIDM will design and update scenario-based curricula. The framework is designed for implementation across Zonal Railways, with continuous review and improvement to strengthen India’s railway disaster response capabilities.
