Six-lane-flyover
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced approval of Rs 913.70 crore for construction of a 3.578 km-long six-lane elevated corridor over the Panchaganga river near Kolhapur on National Highway 48. The project aims to prevent disruption of highway traffic during floods and ensure smoother movement on the Pune–Bengaluru corridor.

The six-lane pillar bridge will be built on the Kagal–Satara stretch of NH-48 and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow through Kolhapur city. The project also includes development of a six-lane cement service road, improvement of the Gandhinagar junction and construction of two underpasses on both sides of the railway line to facilitate safe crossing.

NH-48 connects Delhi to Chennai and provides direct access to major cities such as Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru. As the Panchaganga river belt is a low-lying and flood-prone area, the elevated flyover is expected to ensure uninterrupted and safer traffic movement in the region.
