Uttar Pradesh government has announced the construction of a 19,000 km long road network across the state entailing an investment of ₹15,000 crore. The targeted road network will be completed in the next two years under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The project aims at economic transformation of the villages and to ensure seamless connectivity in such areas. The project will not just ease vehicular congestion in city clusters of these areas but will also generate employment opportunities by enabling farmers to transport the agricultural produce including food grains, vegetables, and milk to the marketplaces, thereby increasing their income and socio-economic conditions. In fact, the government has aimed to complete the construction of 8000 km of the road in the next six months and the remaining length will be completed after that. Owing to the sustained efforts of the state to improve the road infrastructure, the far-flung villages, rural and remote areas are now becoming a part of the mainstream development across the state.
