Kerala PWD Targets 350 Bridges and 15,000 Km of Road Upgrades
The Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) has set a target of constructing 350 bridges and upgrading 15,000 km of roads to Bituminous Macadam and Bituminous Concrete (BMBC) standards during the current government's tenure as part of its plan to modernise the state's infrastructure.

Administrative sanction had been granted for projects worth Rs 2,000 crore over the past six months. The department is also preparing a comprehensive package for developing major junctions, bypasses and flyovers across the state. Projects will be prioritised based on recommendations from a committee headed by IAS officer A. Shajahan, whose study report is awaited.

The proposed programme will focus on easing congestion at major junctions, constructing new bypasses and flyovers, and improving road infrastructure in selected cities under the City Road Improvement Project. Basheer said a meeting of MLAs had been convened to collect suggestions and proposals for prioritising the projects.

Separately, as part of infrastructure development linked to the Sabarimala pilgrimage, administrative sanction has been granted for 90 road works worth Rs 551.5 crore.
