Karnataka Plans Elevated Expressway On NH-66 From Kerala To Goa Borders

Karnataka Plans Elevated Expressway
Karnataka is planning to upgrade the National Highway 66 corridor between the Kerala and Goa borders, with a proposed elevated expressway following the Kerala highway development model. The project is expected to improve connectivity along the coastal region and reduce accident risks on the high-traffic route.

The proposed development covers the stretch from Talapady on the Mangaluru-Kerala border to Byndoor in the first phase, followed by the Byndoor-Karwar section towards the Goa border in the second phase.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary said a formal request had been submitted to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the development of the corridor. According to the MP, a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared following the minister’s instructions.

The proposed upgrade aims to transform the existing highway into an accident-controlled corridor, incorporating design standards adopted in Kerala. The elevated expressway is also expected to strengthen road connectivity between Karnataka, Kerala and Goa.
