Tamil Nadu targets 8,900-km road upgrades

The State Highways Department of Tamil Nadu has approved the upgradation of 8,900-km length of the road network across the state. The state has decided to upgrade 2,200 km length of State Highways into four-lane roads and 6,700 km of single and intermediate lane roads into double-lane roads under the Chief Minister’s Road Development Program. A government order issued to this effect further revealed that the work will be undertaken in a phased manner under the Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project - II, Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), and also under few other schemes.
