NHAI is ready to start the construction of the Bengaluru-Hyderabad (NH 44) highway widening project, which will be widened from the existing four lanes to six lanes to provide hassle-free movement of vehicular traffic between the two state capitals at an investment of ₹4,750 crore. It is also set to get a real-time digital information management system. Apart from reducing travelling time between the cities, the project will also be a relief to air travellers as Bengaluru airport is located on the Hyderabad road and Hyderabad airport on Bengaluru road and both the airports are located at a distance of 40 km from the city centre. If the road is converted to a six-lane, the travel time may decrease further. The road users are happy with the highway widening decision as the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway is a key road that connects north and central parts of the country towards peninsular India and even till Kanyakumari.
