NHAI unveils ₹356-cr highway upgrade in Assam

NHAI has initiated work to upgrade the existing four-lane NH to a six-lane in Guwahati involving ₹356.02 crore investment. It will also have four flyovers besides a 'vehicular underpass'. The project is aimed at streamlining the perennial traffic logjam along the Jalubari Chariali road leading to Bashishta Chariali. Once completed, it will provide a major boost to the road connectivity of the strategic NER (North Eastern Region). NHAI is currently examining the tender-evaluation process wherein 10 construction players participated in the process.

The NHIDCL is currently involved in several Central government projects related to the national highways in Assam in particular and the NER in general. Under the phase-I part of the project, the entire stretch from Jalukbari to Basistha Chariali (in Guwahati) will be upgraded to a six-lane. The stretch will also house four six-lane flyovers at Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra, and Basistha Chariali with a vehicular underpass at the Beharbari point in Guwahati. Apart from the six-lane NH project, there will also be 'service roads' along the entire National Highways in the Guwahati area of the project.
