The Union Transport Ministry plans to take up about 131 new National Highway projects involving ₹84,193 crore investment, in the North-Eastern States, within the next three years, under the National Infrastructure Pipeline, through other implementing agencies like NHIDCL, State PWDs, and BRO. The government is working on the National Highway Projects across states in the region and is also going all out to expedite the completion of all ongoing National Highway projects. The government has taken various steps which include streamlining of land acquisition & environment clearances, exit for equity investors, premium rescheduling, close coordination with other Ministries, revamping of dispute resolution mechanism, frequent reviews at various levels. The Ministry takes up new National Highway projects through its implementing agencies based on the requirements of traffic, connectivity, intense priority, and the availability of resources. NHAI has initiated action for taking up construction of flyovers at Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra & Basistha Junction in Guwahati Bypass, standalone flyovers and ROB on stretches of NH 31, NH 31C, NH 36 and NH 37, and balance work of Narimbaglo-Jatinga Junction- Hrangajao stretch of East-West corridor, besides NHAI has planned to take up project preparation work for construction Guwahati Ring Road.
