MMRDA unveils ₹1,000-cr road linking MTHL with MPE

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has announced plans to construct a link road worth ₹1000 crore to provide direct connectivity between the under-construction Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The MTHL project will connect Sewri on the Mumbai side to Chirle on the Navi Mumbai side, with an interchange at Chirle connecting the expressway to MTHL via an elevated corridor. Chirle, a fast-developing residential area on the outskirts of Navi Mumbai, adjoins Uran and Ulwe. This new corridor is expected to allow commuters to travel directly from Worli in South Mumbai to Pune without getting stuck in traffic, saving over an hour in travel time.

The MTHL project, also known as the Sewri Nhava Sheva Harbour Link, is a 22-km-long six-lane bridge, with 16.5 km over the sea and 5.5 km of viaduct on land on either side. It is touted as India's longest sea bridge, significantly reducing travel time between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes from the present two hours. The MMRDA is implementing the MTHL project, and it is currently 93% complete. The bridge is expected to open in December next year.
