Cabinet Approves Rs 7,597 Crore Highway Projects to Boost Connectivity in Northern Telangana
The projects involve the four-laning of the 190.76-km Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section of NH-63 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) model.
The upgraded corridors will strengthen connectivity across the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Mancherial while improving access to major pilgrimage destinations such as the Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Temple, Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Kaleshwaram Temple and the historic Nagunur Fort.
The projects are expected to promote religious and heritage tourism by enabling faster and safer travel, encouraging multi-destination pilgrimages and supporting local businesses, hospitality services and transport operators.
The highway upgrades will also improve connectivity to key economic centres, including fisheries and seafood clusters, Special Economic Zones in Siddipet and Warangal, and Mega Food Parks in Nizamabad and Siddipet. Enhanced road infrastructure is expected to facilitate faster movement of raw materials and finished goods, reduce logistics costs and strengthen supply chains for agriculture, food processing and manufacturing industries.
Northern Telangana is a major producer of paddy, maize, cotton, turmeric and horticultural crops. The improved highway network will provide farmers with better access to markets, warehouses and processing centres while supporting the efficient movement of agricultural produce and reducing transportation costs.
The projects are aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and will improve connectivity between multiple economic, logistics and social infrastructure nodes, contributing to integrated regional development.
The upgraded corridors will also strengthen links with NH-44, India's longest north-south highway, as well as NH-363 and NH-163G, improving connectivity between Telangana and major freight corridors linking Nagpur, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
Upon completion, travel time between Armoor and Mancherial is expected to reduce by around 1 hour and 30 minutes, while the journey between Jagtial and Karimnagar is likely to be shortened by approximately 45 minutes.
The highway expansion is also expected to ease congestion along several urban stretches, including Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, Mancherial, Potharam and Gangadhara, where growing traffic volumes have increasingly strained the existing road network.
