Karnataka clears ₹21,000-cr PRR road project

ring road project in Karnataka
Karnataka government has given administrative clearance to the Bengaluru Peripheral Ring Road project (PRR) involving ₹21,000 crore investment. The 73 km eight-lane road, 100 metres wide, got stuck in a land acquisition tangle and funding issue since 2006. The state government has now listed the project on the priority list of infrastructure projects and has approved the calling of tenders to ensure its implementation as quickly as possible. The mega road project will be funded by the concessionaire and the latter would be allowed to collect toll for 50 years. The developer will also pay for land acquisition costs, the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswamy informed.

The proposal for the PRR project aims to connect Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road to decongest Bengaluru and ease traffic. The cabinet approved the project after securing the Supreme Court's green signal last year for land acquisition for the road to be built on the Public-private-partnership. About 65 per cent of the project cost is towards the acquisition of 2,500 acres of land.
