The construction work on Jorhat-Lakhimpur Majuli-Lakhimpur road stretch is all set to start shortly as the Union Transport Ministry has approved ₹785.364 crores for it. The project is expected to be completed in 36 months. The onward journey from Majuli to Bongalmara in Lakhimpur will be possible with two major four-lane bridges – one over the Subansiri and the other over the Luit. Traveling from Majuli to Lakhimpur will become easy after the development of several existing roads in the entire stretch. This is a major policy decision taken by the State Government to ensure hassle-free connectivity. The entire stretch from Balichapori in Majuli to Bongalmara in Lakhimpur is 19 km and the length of the bridge over the Subansiri will be 2 km, and the one over the Luit will be 700 meters. Existing roads in the stretch will be two-lane.
