Railway fixes Rs. 2 lakh-cr projects on radar

Injecting a major booster to the rail sector, the Union Railway Ministry has fixed an astounding sum of over Rs. 2 lakh-cr investment target to build new rail lines and expanding the existing ones, said official sources elaborating that in the recent past, the Railway Ministry has rolled out many progressive schemes to convert all lines into broad gauge, connecting all capitals with railways, drastically improving passenger conveniences and introducing fast-tracked rail service between selected cities in the first experiment and then expanding them. Dwelling in detail, they said that some very interesting figures of big increase in investments made in rail services of the country during past three years. In the 2014-15 financial year, the investment was Rs. 45,000-cr and then it was pushed to Rs. 93,000-cr during 2015-16 and increased to Rs. 1.21 lakh-cr in 2016-17, they claimed.
