The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), after hectic negotiations secured clearance from the railways to build a portion of elevated road passing over Vasundhara rail line in the NCR. For the road project, which is entailing an investment of Rs.1,248 crore, railways will give a five-hour window to GDA for about a month to carry out construction work on the section of elevated road, said GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma, elaborating that the GDA had paid the railways a sum of Rs.8.26 crore for drawing and design approval of the elevated road on this section. Last year NGT had briefly stayed work on a portion of elevated road on the ground that few pillars of elevated road passing through 'Arthala bird sanctuary' in violation of environmental norms. The six-lane elevated road is touted as the country's longest elevated road being built on 282 piers all through 9.3 km of elevated structure from UP Gate to Rajnagar extension in the district.
