Railway clears expansion of ₹14,000-cr rail lines in HP
The Indian Railways is all set to launch the expansion of four rail projects at an investment of ₹6,769 crore in Himachal Pradesh, said the Union minister. The project includes a 63.1 km long Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri railway line costing ₹6,769 crore, 50 km long Una-Hamirpur rail line stretch costing ₹3044.10 crore, 33.23 km long Chandigarh-Baddi line entailing an investment of ₹1,540 crore, and 112.9 km long Nangal Dam-Talwara railway line at an investment of ₹2,528.49 crore. Most of these projects involve expansion of existing rail network in the hill state. The Railways has carried out two surveys to connect the famous Sikh religious place Paonta Sahib with the railway network. The survey for new BG line from Ghanoli to Dehradun via Baddi, Nalgarh, Jagadhari, Surajpur, Kala Amb, and Paonta Sahib (216 km) has already been completed. The survey report has pegged ₹3,746 crore as the cost of this line but the project is being delayed due to lower rate of return, which has been assessed at 0.40 per cent.
