The NHAI has launched construction work on the four lanes Jammu-Poonch national highway at an investment of ₹5,100 crore. It is also set to start work on the much awaited Akhnoor-Rajouri-Poonch section of National Highway 144A very shortly. The Centre has already approved funds for the NH, which involves an 8-m wide double lane road with paved shoulders and amenities for highway users. The existing road on Akhnoor-Poonch section of the highway, which is about 196 km long, would be paved 1.5 meters on both sides to enhance the road geometry as per the laid down standards of MoRTH.
