Railway Board gives nod to Nagpur metro project

The Railway Board has cleared the DPR of the Broad Gauge Metro rail in Nagpur linking the city to suburban towns. The report is being sent to the state government for final clearance. Dr. Brijesh Dixit, Maha Metro, said that the railway minister has already approved the project. The railway board has asked zonal offices of Central Railway (CR) and South-Eastern Central Railway (SECR) to draft concession agreements for the metro project. According to the DPR prepared by a consultancy firm, the cost of the Nagpur Broad Gauge Metro project is estimated to be ₹418 crore; 70% of the investment will be debt while 30% will comprise equity from state and central governments. The maximum design speed will be 200 km per hour and the operating speed will be 160 kmph.
