MoRTH ready to award ₹50,000-cr roads & highways

MoRTH
The transport ministry has decided to award ₹50,000 crore road and highway projects in the next three months, said Road Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari. The projects command a length of 4,471 km and the ministry has already awarded 168 road projects with a length of 3,215 km during the current financial year. NHAI is currently executing more than 400 road projects with costs exceeding ₹50 crore each. Some of the 24,000 km projects are running behind schedule due to reasons such as poor performance of contractor, utility shifting, delay in environment/forest clearance/ land acquisition, cash flow problem of the concessionaire/contractor. The steps taken by the government to expedite projects include streamlining land acquisition, revamping of disputes resolution mechanism and project award process, added Gadkari.
