Railway approves ₹527-cr for Kolkata metro corridor

Kolkata Metro
The Railway Board has approved ₹527 crore for the alignment of the 3.6km long stretch from City Centre II to the Airport as it is the most sustained metro corridor from New Garia to the Airport. The elevated metro corridor will run along the edge of the Airport land, parallel to the VIP Road, before it goes underground to reach the station where it will have an interface with Noapara Airport Metro. From City Centre II to the Airport there is no major hardship and the government is floating tenders for the new contractor to expedite the construction work. The funds for the project includes the development of the viaduct, ramp and underground RCC box and pushing the box (in cut and cover method), railway yard at the airport and two stations — Rabi Tirtha and VIP Road. There are a host of architectural, mechanical, electrical, ventilation and PHE jobs too. In another tender floated by the Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL), a ₹246.9-crore work is being awarded to the contractor for the construction of 7 stations from New Town (Sub CBD) to Titumir (City Centre II) and a host of civil, mechanical and electrical work.
