Railway approves ₹2,410-cr projects in TN

A staggering sum worth ₹2,410 crore has been allotted to build railway infrastructure including safety measures in Tamil Nadu during the current fiscal, Union railway minister said adding that budget allocation for the same in 2014-19 was ₹1,979 crore, which is 225% of the budget outlay in 2009-14. The stats showed that as many as 27 different projects worth 18,855 crore are currently in different stages of planning, sanction and execution. This includes nine new line projects (871 km), eight doubling projects (592 km) and ten electrification projects (1633 km) but delay in land acquisition by the state government is the main reason for delay in the execution of the projects. In addition, shifting of utilities, statutory clearances from various authorities also hampers the speedy completion of the projects, he added.
