Pune plans 6,000 housing units under PMAY

Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY)
The Pune Municipal Corporation has recently authorized private builders to build 6,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY). This means more urban poor can hope to fulfill their dream of buying a house. The projects will come up in different parts of the city, said city engineer, Prashant Waghmare, adding that the civic body has already approved 6,264 houses in the city to be built for the economically weaker sections and low and middle-income groups. The civic body has also made arrangements for a tie-up with financial institutions to ensure smooth flow of funds for the construction of these low cost units. They will be built on municipal plots reserved for urban poor housing projects in Kharadi, Hadapsar and Vadgaon areas of the city and that the civic body will soon announce the dates for the lottery to select the beneficiaries.
