PM kickstarts ₹26,936-cr metro rail projects

The Prime Minister has laid the foundation stones for two metro corridors in Mumbai and Pune involving a combined investment of ₹26,936 crore. The project in Pune will connect Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar areas of the city, while the Mumbai Metro 5 would run between Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and will be built at an investment of ₹8,416 crore. Metro 9 will run on the Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander route commanding a length of 24.9 km with 7 stations and will be executed at a cost of ₹6,607 crore; it is expected to be completed by 2022. This line will also be integrated with Metro 7 that runs from Dahisar to Andheri, Metro 2A that runs from Dahisar to DN Road, and another Metro-10 to be built at a cost of ₹3,600 crore will also chug from Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk. The Pune line between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar will be built at a cost of ₹8,313 crore with a length of 23 km. The Mumbai projects are being executed by MMRDA and the Pune venture has been undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority on a PPP model.
