Piyush Goyal Confirms All Clearances for Mumbai Coastal Road Extension to Virar; Work to Begin Soon

Piyush-Goyal
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that all major approvals for the Mumbai Coastal Road project extension up to Virar in Palghar district have been secured and construction will begin soon. The Coastal Road currently runs from Marine Drive to Worli, where it connects to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

In the next phases, the project will be extended from Worli to Versova and further to Virar, integrating key parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Once fully completed, the travel time from Nariman Point to Virar is expected to reduce to just 35–40 minutes.

Goyal said that all pending approvals, including land acquisition, transfer of salt pan lands, Coastal Regulation Zone clearance, Environment Ministry approval, and Forest Department permissions, have now been resolved. With these in place, the project is set to move forward at a fast pace, he said after chairing a high-level review meeting in Mumbai.
