NTPC Plans 30 GW Nuclear Capacity by 2047, Mahi Banswara Project to Begin Testing by 2032-33

Anu Shakti Vidyut Nigam Limited, a joint venture between NTPC and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, is developing a 4×700 MW nuclear project in Banswara district of Rajasthan known as the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project. NTPC has also set up a wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Limited, incorporated on January 7, 2025, after receiving necessary approvals.
To explore global collaborations and technology partnerships, NTPC has issued an Expression of Interest to international stakeholders. The first 700 MW unit of the Mahi Banswara project is expected to undergo initial testing by the financial year 2032-33, marking a major step in India’s long-term nuclear energy roadmap.
