NHAI Uses AI-Driven Drone Surveys to Identify 1,000 Encroachments on Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has deployed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to detect approximately 1,000 encroachments obstructing the construction of major roads.
Conducting an aerial survey over four key national highways, NHAI covered around 360 km using high-frequency drones. The survey method involved an operator traveling in a vehicle while drones captured real-time images of the highway, pinpointing encroachments that need removal to expedite construction work.
This technology-driven approach enhances efficiency in identifying and addressing obstructions, ensuring faster project execution and improved road infrastructure across the country.
