NHAI to Track Around 100 Toll Plazas with GIS-Based Software

To improve traffic flow at toll plazas, Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by NHAI, has introduced a GIS-based software for real-time monitoring of wait times. Initially, about 100 toll plazas, identified based on congestion reports from the 1033 National Highway helpline, will be monitored live via the web-based platform. The service will be expanded to more plazas in phases.
The software provides key details such as the name and location of toll plazas, live queue length in meters, total waiting time, and vehicle speed. It also issues congestion alerts and lane distribution recommendations when queues exceed prescribed limits, helping to optimize traffic management at toll plazas.
