NHAI takes over ₹7,715-cr road project in Delhi

NHAI
Delhi Development Authority has handed over its urban extension road (UER)-II, third ring road of the national capital, to NHAI. The road aims to provide seamless access between north, northwest Delhi, IGI Airport and Gurugram. The project is ready to take off after a decade long inordinate delay.

The over ₹7,700 crore-project, which was conceived by DDA in 2016 but later handed over to NHAI in 2018, failed to take off due to financial issues. NHAI, which invited bids for the project in December 2019, asked DDA to pay for the viability gap funding worth ₹4,000 crore.

The road will begin from NH-1 close to Narela, cross NH-10 by way of Rohini and Dwarka, connect IGIA and NH-8 close to Rajokri and finish at NH-2 close to Badarpur. While a 49-km part between NH-1 and NH-Eight and Nelson Mandela Marg can be accomplished in Phase I, Urban Extension Road can be extended up to 11 km to Badarpur in Phase II. UER-II is a part of the road extension proposed in the Master Plan for Delhi 2021.
