National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to exceed the current fiscal‘s target of constructing 3,500km of highways, which may require extra investment. The road building agency has targeted awarding worth 6,500km and construction of 3,500 km, NHAI chairman Deepak Kumar said this after the launch of new website of NHAI and project monitoring information system (PMIS) mobile app in New Delhi recently. For meeting the investment requirement NHAI board has approved the monetization of operational highway projects. Under the scheme, nine highway projects will be auctioned by this month-end which would generate Rs 6,700 crore. Last year, NHAI had been authorized by the cabinet committee on economic affairs to monetize the public-funded highway projects for mobilizing funds and to date it has raised Rs19,880 crore from the market and various other financial resources.
