NH-144-A gets four tunnels worth ₹510-cr in J&K

Tunner work
The National Highway-144-A being built in Jammu and Kashmir would have four tunnels involving an investment of ₹510 crore for straightening of sharp curves and the move will reduce the overall journey by more than one hour and probably by-passing some congested towns from Akhnoor to Poonch. The tunnels would be constructed at the identified locations including Kandi village (57.11 meter), Sangal village (260 meter), Nowshera near Tain Bridge (102 meter) and Bhimber village (260 meter) on the Akhnoor-Poonch national highway, said official sources, detailing that the prime motive of constructing four tunnels is to reduce the vehicular traffic along the highway and it would provide regional connectivity and save travelling distance and time as well. Tunnels would provide better and more comfortable travelling experiences as they would reduce sudden rise and fall of steep gradient and tight curves on entire Akhnoor to Poonch stretch. The construction work will be executed by NHAI under the supervision of Border Road Organization as the entire stretch of the road is being maintained by border road building agency.
