NGT gives 'go ahead' to NH-24 project

14 lanes between Delhi and Ghaziabad
The construction work on the widening of NH-24 to 14 lanes between Delhi and Ghaziabad is set to start with the National Green Tribunal in a recent move and has cleared the construction of two new bridges on Yamuna and two flyovers on each side of the existing, one near the Games Village, said sources, claiming that the clearance comes with riders including that the NHAI has to comply with strict monitoring of the Yamuna floodplains during construction of the bridges. The Delhi government has already started the process of rehabilitating slum-dwellers, staying close to the existing highway, said NHAI Chairman, Raghav Chandra, adding that the NGT acknowledged that in this case, NHAI is only expanding the existing highway to decongest the stretch and there was no other option. With all the clearances in place, the work on the entire stretch starting from Nizamuddin-UP Gate and Dasna to Hapur will start shortly.
