Newly Built State Highway Washed Away by Katli River in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu

A newly constructed state highway in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district was washed away by the overflowing Katli River before it could be officially inaugurated. The incident occurred near Baghuli in Udaipurwati following heavy rainfall of 86 mm. The Katli River, a seasonal waterway that flows through Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu districts, swelled with strong currents that eroded a major section of the highway. The road had been built just six months ago to connect the villages of Baghuli and Jahaj with National Highway 52, which links to Jhunjhunu and Sikar.
The river has been under scrutiny due to growing encroachments and illegal sand and gravel mining. A government drive had earlier been launched to clear these encroachments.
