Gujarat’s Gambhira Bridge Collapses in Vadodara

A span of the 900-metre-long Gambhira Bridge near Mujpur in Padra taluka of Gujarat’s Vadodara district collapsed, sending five to six vehicles, including two trucks and two vans, plunging into the Mahisagar River. The bridge, inaugurated in 1985, has 23 spans and connects the Vadodara and Anand districts, serving as a crucial link between central Gujarat and the Saurashtra region.

Following the tragic incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the PMNRF for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

Sharing his condolences on X, the Prime Minister stated, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district, Gujarat, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”
