NBCC bags Rs. 5,000-cr station upgrade projects

In the railway station upgrading exercise involving redevelopment of 100 stations into world-class terminals, the railway ministry has awarded 10 railway stations projects to the National Buildings Construction Corporation at an investment of Rs. 5,000cr, said official sources, claiming that the redevelopment and monetization would be carried out through commercial exploitation of the land that railway provides, said chairman, NBCC, Anoop Kumar Mittal, adding that NBCC, which is a renowned real estate builder of the country, is participating in this initiative in the first phase and would redevelop core infrastructure such as platform, lounges, ticketing counters, parking, and other passenger amenities, besides building separate arrival and departure terminals on the lines of airports. In turn, the builder would get commercial exploitation rights of these stations' land bank by building or leasing land to hotels, malls, multiplexes, and corporate. The stations identified included Varanasi, Jaipur, Kota, Sarai Rohilla (Delhi), Thane, Margao (Goa), Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Tirupati, and Puducherry.
