MNRE Issues Revised Guidelines for Waste-to-Energy Programme

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released revised guidelines under the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Programme of the National Bioenergy Programme, aimed at streamlining implementation and improving performance-linked support.

The updated framework simplifies approval processes, reduces paperwork, and expedites financial assistance, particularly benefiting MSMEs engaged in the production of Compressed Biogas (CBG), biogas, and power from bio-waste. The revisions promote a more efficient, transparent, and business-friendly ecosystem for WtE projects in both public and private sectors.

The move also supports India’s push for improved waste management, including stubble and industrial waste, while contributing to the country’s net-zero emissions goal by 2070.
