Construction of the flyover connecting Eastern Express Highway with BKC is cruising ahead with MMRDA launching girders above the tracks near Sion and Chunabhatti stations. The nodal agency has got the approval to block the railway line with the change in timings from post-midnight till morning. The project will also ease traffic on the Sion-Dharavi Link Road and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), which are used by motorists to reach BKC or the Western Express Highway. It will originate from G Block in Bandra-Kurla complex near the MMRDA building and culminate near Somaiya Grounds before the Sion flyover at the Eastern Express Highway. The bridge above the Mithi River will be 230 metres in length, while the rail over-bridges will be 50 metres long and its commissioning will ease traffic on the heavily congested SCLR, besides taking some traffic off the Sion-Dharavi Link Road, said MMRDA sources.
