Ministry of Coal Reports Growth in Production & Dispatch for FY 2024-25
As of August 25, 2024, the Ministry of Coal has recorded a substantial increase in coal production and dispatch for the fiscal year 2024-25. The cumulative coal production reached 370.67 million tonnes (MT), a 7.12% rise compared to 346.02 MT during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Coal dispatches also saw a significant uptick, with a total of 397.06 MT dispatched by August 25, 2024, marking a 5.48% growth from the 376.44 MT dispatched in the corresponding period of FY 2023-24.
The power sector, a key consumer of coal, benefited from this increase, with dispatches to power plants totaling 325.97 MT, compared to 313.44 MT in the previous year. This growth was achieved despite an initial stock of 47 MT at thermal power plants (TPPs) as of April 1, 2024, ensuring a steady supply of coal to meet energy demands.
The overall coal stock position, including pitheads at mines, TPPs, and in transit, reached 121.57 MT as of August 25, 2024, a notable 36.2% increase from 89.28 MT during the same period last year. Additionally, the coal stock at TPPs (DCB) rose to 37.55 MT, up 27.41% from 29.47 MT last year.
