Maharashtra Govt Approves Rs 526 Cr Indrayani River Revitalisation Project Led by PCMC

Indrayani River Revitalisation Project
The Maharashtra government has approved the Rs 526 crore Indrayani River revitalisation project, spearheaded by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The initiative aims to restore the ecological health of the Indrayani River, which has suffered severe pollution from drains, industrial effluents, and invasive water hyacinths.

The project will focus on water treatment, flood control, and beautification, with key measures including the construction of a drainage system for rainwater storage, installation of interceptors to divert polluted water, and building of embankments to prevent flooding. Plans also include developing green spaces and landscaped riverbanks to enhance the riverfront.

Flowing through important pilgrimage towns such as Alandi and Dehu, the Indrayani River holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for local communities. The revitalisation project is expected to improve water quality, restore biodiversity, and enhance the river’s social and environmental value in the region.
