The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has fast tracked construction work of two Metro depots, one each at Vanaz and Range Hills, and expedited construction of the Metro viaduct in both lines. These lines are part of the Vanaz-Ramwadi corridor and PCMC-Range Hills falling on the Pimpri-Swargate route. The depots will provide parking bays and maintenance pits for Metro rakes as one of them is coming up near the College of Agriculture in Shivajinagar and the other is being built at the erstwhile garbage depot on Paud Road. The Range hills depot will have 12 stabling lines and will look after the maintenance of rakes on the PCMC-Civil Court-Swargate route, while the other will have 18 stabling lines to cater to the rakes deployed on the Vanaz-Ramwadi route. MahaMetro has completed the formalities and appointed an agency to build both the depots and ground work at both the sites has started, which are slated to be completed in two-and-a-half years. MahaMetro has received 26 hectares of land to build the depots as PMC has handed over 13.27 hectares in Vanaz, while the state government has earmarked 12.3 hectares near the College of Agriculture.
