Kerala’s First Extradosed Cable-Stayed Bridge Completed

The Naluchira bridge across the Karuvatta Leading Channel near Thottappally, Alappuzha, has been completed and will soon open to traffic. Built at a cost of ₹60.73 crore, it is Kerala’s first extradosed cable-stayed bridge.
Spanning 458 meters in length and 11.2 meters in width, the bridge features a 70-meter central span without piers to ensure smooth water transport. It is constructed using pre-stressed box girders and cable-stayed technology, with additional spans ranging from 12 to 42 meters.
The bridge will connect the Ambalappuzha-Thiruvalla State Highway to NH 66, providing vital road connectivity for Naluchira and Illichira residents who previously relied on ferries. It is expected to enhance regional connectivity, support agricultural transportation, and boost Alappuzha’s tourism sector.
