In its bid to provide hassle-free movement of vehicular traffic across the state, the state government in Kerala has decided to build or upgrade 100 road corridors at an investment of Rs. 1,815cr. To speed up the planned road network venture, the government cleared projects involving investment of Rs. 10-cr to Rs. 75-cr under the Special Investment Scheme to be availed from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), said official sources. The works sanctioned by the government now is in addition to the 76 road corridors to be developed under the stimulus package by sourcing Rs. 1,271-cr from the KIIFB and approved in August, Chief Engineer, Roads and Bridges, had been asked to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the works. Of the 104 road corridor forwarded by the chief engineer to the government, only 100 had been given the administrative clearances, official sources said.
