JICA keens to fund Phase-IV of DMRC

Expressing its willingness to extend its association with the DMRC beyond the Phase-III of the DMRC, the Japanese government funding agency JICA, is keen to extend its financing cooperation to Phase IV and V of the metro transporter, the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) India, Takema Sakamoto said, adding that there is a need for huge capacity expansion in public transportation and the agency is likely to discuss further financing avenues with the DMRC, which is likely to request for support for the phase IV very soon. JICA has been supporting DMRC's metro project since phase I construction in 1997. It is currently supporting the construction of the phase III of the DMRC which is targeting completion in 2016 or next year. The third phase of the DMRC is being supported by JICA with a 48.57% loan by the Japanese funding agency as this phase entailed an investment of Rs. 41,079cr, he claimed.
