In an attempt to build a classic infrastructure within its jurisdiction, the state government in Kerala has recently cleared Rs.210 crore for a road project. In this connection, bids for the Ukkadam flyover and construction work on Western Bypass road project is also being expedited. The first phase of the 1.75 km from Nanjappa Road also covers the second segment of the flyover on 100 feet road. Ukkadam flyover construction works will start shortly, as the government has sanctioned funds for land acquisition and for construction activities on the project in question. The final notification for land acquisition is on the anvil. Sources said that it will be a 1.97 km, four-lane flyover from Karumbukkadai and will have two ramps near the Ukkadam junction and the project will be completed in about two years. The district administration has sought approval from the State government to form three special units to survey the land on the alignment proposed for the western bypass road, said sources.
